I've been in the music business most of my life and eventually found myself playing music I didn't really want to play for the sake of the gig. I was pleasing the crowd to pay the rent instead of being the creative artist I longed to be. I wrote the song around a circus theme for obvious reasons. I still love pleasing the crowd - I need to please them, but I need to please myself artistically as well.

The sideshow freak who swallows fire
I can make the people shout
When my head's inside the lion's mouth

I have the top of the pyramid view
Don't I amaze and astonish you

You know that I'm defying death

I'm the clown who leads the parade
The ring master of this charade
I appear to fly with ease
I'm the daring young woman on the flying trapeze
